"Rising Sun"

The basic problem with marble, Logan figured, is that it stubbornly refused to light on fire.

The front hallway was marble. He'd gotten most of the living room to catch -- expensive imported linens went very well with fireplace lighters -- and the posters in his father's "office" had made for great kindling for that part of the house. Everything in the kitchen was electric, so no boom there.

He contemplated the empty bottle of Armagnac in his hand. If only he'd thought to keep something flammable to warm up the cold, cold floor out here in the hall. Maybe there was a seam somewhere in the floor where he could stick a match. His knees were slick against the stone as he knelt down to take a good long look -- he hadn't realized how warm he'd gotten, but maybe breaking furniture could be the next Olympic sport.

The bottle made a dull, unnoticed sound as it slipped from his grasp. The marble didn't seem quite so cold now that he was closer to it. Maybe if he lay down, he could make a difference.

It felt so smooth against his cheek.

From this angle, he could see the bright new shade of orange licking the walls of the living room. Soon the whole house would be the color of the rising sun.

And steer towards horizon.
